ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING
OIL (Fuel)
DISTRIBUTION CENTRE (Army Rations)
The undernoted were the balances as on 31st
March, 1949, of the Treasury Suspense Accounts operated
by these Sections and they were disposed of as stated
during the year 1949/50 :-
ACCOMMODATION
Cr. $221,502.24
CATERING
Dr.
52.600.36
Net
Cr. $168,901.88
Since it was considered that the net credit
balance of $168,901.88 represented a surplus resulting
from the administration of accommodation and messing of
privileged personnel, it was decided to transfer this amount to the credit of Budget Miscellaneous Revenue in
1949/50. No further information was available.
OIL (Fuel)
Cr. $148,838.93
The only known outstanding against this account
was a charge of $134,547.28 by the Custodian of Property
in respect of Oil requisitioned and sold but not paid for. The requisite payment voucher was submitted to the Trea- sury for the payment of this amount to the Custodian of Property but the Deputy Financial Secretary countermanded
the payment voucher and instructed that the money be held
in a Treasury deposit account on the ground that Govern-
ment is not paying the Custodian for any unclaimed goods retained by them, pending a settlement with H.M. Govern- ment as to the liquidation of the Custodian's Accounts.
The ultimate balance of $14,291.65 on this Oil
(Fuel) Suspense Account was regarded as a surplus on admin-
istration and was transferred to the credit of Budget Mis-
cellaneous Revenue in 1949/50.
